I am honoured for the opportunity to guest blog with NewGen today. My name is Ollie, I am one of the Directors at Amcomp. We at Amcomp are a specialist VoIP and internet provider and have been supplying SMB up and down the country for the past 20 years.

Today I wanted to take the opportunity to talk a little bit about Microsoft Teams and how you can integrate your phone system with Teams.

Over the past year we have all had to change how we’ve interreacted, both in our social life and our business life, with the mass adoption of remote working we have had to find new tools to communicate and collaborate but with light at the end of the tunnel, what do we want to keep and what do we want to throw away for ever? (I am looking at you Zoom Pub quizzes…).

We have all seen the monumental rise of Zoom, but what about Microsoft’s lesser-known alternative, Teams? While Zoom has created game of thrones level dramas in parish council meetings, Teams, the sophisticated and suave rival, has been amassing a huge user base for itself.

By focusing more on how businesses can use its features to grow, Teams has created an eco-space, prime for any organisation. One of the Key features that has recently come to light is something called “direct routing”.

Direct Routing

Direct routing is a way to provide a connection to a PSTN (public switched telephone network) to Microsoft teams, so that your organisation can make and receive external phone calls on any device using teams.

Traditionally, organisations have been using a PBX phone system, often located on the premises. However, with Teams, Direct routing Businesses can cut the costs of an expensive PBX.

Of course, I should mention there is an official Microsoft calling plan which acts in a very similar way. While these calling plans are a quick and easy way for smaller firms to connect to the PSTN network, there are some drawbacks in terms of coverage, cost, and support.

So why would you use it?

  • No need to pre-pay for calls
  • Pay a simple pence per minute rate as you call for anything outside the calling bundle
  • Access to Features such as – Call Barring, Call Logging, Call Forwarding and optional Call Recording
  • Flexible Number Presentation
  • Customise outbound calling line ID
  • Secure and Reliable
  • Resilient service backed by 99.95% Service guarantees and Fraud Spend limits to protect customers
  • Easy Integration
  • Simple and Easy number allocation without using Powershell
  • Call Anywhere, Anytime

Implementing Direct routing can be stress-free whether you are already using Microsoft teams or migrating from another system. The direct routing method works.

The best part is: if you are already using Microsoft Office 365 through NewGen, then you are already halfway there. This is where our company Amcomp comes in; we are a VoIP and Internet service provider offering enterprise solutions to SMB up and down the country.

The collaboration with our VoIP expertise and Newgen’s managed service and office 365 expertise give you a complete solution to take your team to the next level.
